 ☞ One sad story that comes to mind is that of Hachiko, a loyal Akita dog who lived in Japan in the early 20th century. Hachiko's owner, a professor, would take the train to work every day and Hachiko would faithfully accompany him to the train station and then wait for him to return at the end of the day.

   One day, the professor suffered a fatal stroke while at work and never returned home on the train. But Hachiko continued to wait at the train station every day for the next nine years, hoping to see his beloved owner return. Despite being taken in by a new family, Hachiko would always escape and make his way back to the train station.

   Hachiko's loyalty and devotion touched the hearts of many people in Japan, and after his death he was memorialized with a statue at the train station where he had waited for so many years. The story of Hachiko has since become a symbol of loyalty and love for animals, and has been adapted into books, movies, and other media.
